The Curve section is coming on well.

Looking good with the windmill that was an amazing bargain find at a local model railway show.

++Plus++ new items have been added -

.. including the long awaited Hornby Super Sprinter in the rather fetching RAF 100 livery.
    Class 156 - RAF 100

.. Work is continuing on the New Curve section for Burton Phoenix.

The board has now been 'wired in' and a 'Test Train' has been run to ensure all is well before more scenery work is done.

Burton Crumpnold is now out again and 'Almost' Up and Running.

After a few delays the house redelopment is complete. A major upside is that I been able to 'negotiate' a bigger home for the new Burton Crumpnold.
I have started by doing some changes to the 'Burton Phoenix' layout,

11/02/2019 Burton Crumpnold All Packed away again...
As predicted everything is all packed away and buried behind furniture as we work on other rooms in the house... SO I'm, having to contact myself Playing Train Sim and Train Sim World.... With a bit of luck things will improve after March??

31/01/2018 Well - the end of another Year - and another slow year at Burton Crumpnold 2014/15).
Burton Phoenix has had some use during the year as it has been up in one of our rooms. But I fear it will soon be packed away again as we do some more DIY in the house.
29/01/2018 A Few more tweaks to the website, and added a few more pictures.
I am hoping to dust off Burton Phoenix this weekend and assemble it in our spare bedroom. Then after suitable 'play time' I can take a few more pictures.
For More details see 'Work In Progress'
During my 'setting' up I realised that I had made a further purchase during the 'fallow years' - I took advantage of a special offer to pick up a AC Cars Railbus to join the Park Royal one.
It was not a random choice - The Park Royal Railbus ran on Midland Rails and the AC Cars one ran on Western Region, was is a common theme of the Burton layouts

Finally... - An Updated Website.

I Scaled back my ambitions - to settle for a more basic update.
The site is now 'Responsive' and works better on large and small devices. I have also upgraded the site Navigation.

There is more to follow - thinks have been happening, and after a long wait at 'Burton Towers' model railways will be running again soon.

23/09/2015 Great moment in our new home.. Finally dusted off and assembled Burton Phoenix in a room that now has space to run it. I also indulged in my first railway purchase for quite a while - A Heljan 'Park Royal' Railbus. I particularly wanted one of these as we used to live near the site in North London. .. After testing the layout electrics with good ol 'Smokey Joe' here is the new Railbus in action.
  Park Royal Railbus
09/02/2015 We have just recently moved to North Wales, hence no updates for the last few months...

The room where the layout will be located is currently being used as a 'storeroom' whilst the kitchen is being redone - so it will be a while before 'Proper' model railway work can resume..

So... In the meantime I am currently working on an upgraded Burton Crumpnold website ....
.. there were Endless ETA's Finally done a basic rework in Jan 2018.

27/04/2014 For the last few weeks I have had Burton Phoenix up in our Dining Room so I can finish off the 'Front of the layout'. It has also given me the first oportunity to take an 'End to End' photograph.
    Phoenix Front

I have also been able to restart work on Stowey Green, the N Gauge layout.

As this is my first real go with 'N' and flexible track I decided to start from the 'unseen' side (the back).

    Stowey Loop

Burton Phoenix is Complete!! (More or Less)..

.. Yes there are still jobs to do in tweaking and improving the scenery... but that is the normal routine of running/maintaining a layout.

Today I managed to run a loco on Burton Phoenix whilst I was checking out the layout wiring and the new control box.

I have added the most recent work and added a few photographs on the Work In Progress page.

Another change of plan - decided to switch my energies to the Burton Phoenix end to end 'OO' layout, this needs much less work to get it going and will help me to 'relearn' my soldering and wiring skills. Plus it means I will have a working layout sooner.

-- -30/05/2013

.. So three and a half years later where does that put me...

For all sorts of reasons nowhere, everything stayed 'packed' away - even the N gauge bits.... But is has started to change. I've spent the last couple of weeks 'rediscovering' where I got to, and even reminding myself what I have.

The priority will be the N Gauge 'Stowey Green' layout going initially as far and the lower level. Then I will then tackle the Burton Phoenix end to end 'OO' layout. As proof of this I have added a couple of photographs on the Work In Progress page showing the restarted work.

I have also created basic pages to cover the progress and the stock of the 'Stowey Green' layout.

Old News and History

I have a basic design in place for the 'N' Gauge layout - Stowey Green.

This will be a 4ft 6ins x 2 ft 6ins two layer layout. To keep the gradients low I have built to board so that the front is 30mm higher than the back to keep all the gradients gentle.

Unlike the 'OO' layouts(s) which have a wide variety of stock. I am planning the 'N' gauge layout to be purely GWR steam eta.

The work on Burton Pheonix will also start soon - the first tasks here will be soldering to make all the existing connections work in the new end to end form.

Many apologies about the lack of updates - everything is still packed away - the building work is now complete - just some decorating to do. Here's hoping for some progress this spring.

Whilst everything is on hold (And Inaccessible) during the building work I have been having a bit of a clear out on Ebay of 'Surplus Stock'. Mostly LNER and BR MK2 Coaches.

I'm planning to use the funds to build a small 'N' gauge GWR layout to join the Burton Crumpnold Family. I had been thinking of having a go at an N gauge layout for a while. It all started for real when out local Oxfam shop had some GWR wagons. More on this later.

Other big news is that I have a name for new portable 'OO' layout.

It will be called 'Burton Phoenix - as it has come out of the ashes of the original Burton Crumpnold Layout.!!!

Sorry about the lack of updates - life has been busy.

Sad News -due to the building of as new extension at our house the 'Original' Burton Crumpnold has been 'Decommissioned'.

The room where it has been living currently has no roof.... I have also become very dissatisfied with the quality of the track running. The layout 'Looks' OK but trains do like derailing at the rear (and difficult to access) area's of the track. The longer term plan (2009 and beyond) is to build a larger layout using larger radii more gentle (Peco Streamline?) points.

All is not lost though with the original Burton layout. I am currently in the process of creating a portable layout using what was the Upper station area and a new fiddle yard.

Full Details, and photographs, soon.

Fixed the print mode of the website pages to ensure they came out OK.

Website Update mostly complete and launched - still some work to do on the catalogues

Start of Website Update

Spent a week off running trains to sell off stock that has either been upgraded or just won't get used. I quite enjoy the Ebay selling process, setting up the photo's and additional web pages showing more detail etc.  - and the final wait for the last minutes bids...  Normal service will be restored next week.

Now the Summer Holidays (and Summer) are a dim and distant memory it is now time to get back the the layout.  I've put an update in Work In Progress and added a couple of Layout Photos.

Failed to live up to the promise of an update... Too many 'non railway projects happening... Any spare time has been spent continuing the quest to photograph the stock  I 'foresee' the main 'winter' activity of this website will be creating the illustrated directory.

I have been busy photographing all my stock so I can add pictures to the stock pages. It is taking quite a while, I've nearly finished all the stream locos, coaches and wagons and am about to start on the 'Modern' BR stock.

Updated Home page with new arrivals and added a couple more 'GWR' photos

Now that basic look of Burton Crumpnold is complete I have taken some pictures which can be seen on Layout Photos page.  I've used some of the newer pictures to spruce up the home page to show Burton as it currently looks.

Finished the 'Basic' scenery for the layout. Burton Crumpnold is now beginning to look how I imagined it would.   Although it is by no means 'finished' - there are always other things to add/improve etc. 'I have updated the Work In Progress, and Construction page.

Currently there is plenty of scenery building going on... See Work in Progress.  I will add more pictures of the layout when I've tidied up...

New Bachmann LMS 3F Jinty joins the fleet.
When I realised that the new Jinty was not going to be in LMS livery this year I had a quick look around my local model shops to see if anybody has any, all my 'Internet' Shop's had drew a blank. I found one in my local Antics - at a sale price too...

Took some long overdue Pictures of the layout - in GWR 'mode'..

New Bachmann GWR Pannier Tank Joins the fleet, a birthday present from my lovely wife. So I've enjoyed the week 'running it in..'  OK Playing Trains.....

Now the Christmas Hols are over is back to the layout...
One of the surprises just before Christmas was getting a Mainline 'Frasers of Ipswich' container wagon.  This has been particularly hard to get as they are quite rare and when they do appear on Ebay attract silly prices on  - (often over £20).  This was a very early and for me a great early Christmas present. The wagon is really attractive and had special significance in that I great year living in the Ipswich area.

This means I have reached the end of my shopping list for the 'older' models and now,  along with the rest of the modeling world, have to wait and see what new goodies Hornby & Bachmann have for us this year.

I was particularly exited with the Hornby announcements - particularly concerning the proposed Pendolino and the ex Lima Railcars and DMUs.  2006 could turn out to be an expensive year....

27/11/2005 Finally wired up the upper station area - see Work in Progress.  Also updated the stock lists.

Back from Holiday... Added a couple of pictures

More updates to work in progress etc

Some tidying up on the website.
I've split the stock list up onto multiple pages and added some reasons (OK Excuses) for what I bought...

The layout pictures have also been spread over 2 pages.

  03/07/2005 Long Overdue Website Update.

Added more pictures of the layout as it is so far.

Added a Work In Progress page to encourage me to do more regular updates.  A kind of 'on my workbench' page...

I've been clearing out the 'chaff', mostly ready to make room for up and coming models - wallet permitting of course.

Plus I've been busy on Ebay getting a few items of modern 'Parcels' type rolling stock - Full brakes, Siphons etc.

Also I've been making the removable 'Hill' that covers the hidden sidings and  road access to the main station.

  06/02/2005 Website Update.
Updated the Construction and Control Pages.
09/01/2005 Started on Scenery work. Mostly right side of lower layout
